My lab studies multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease and aging.  The common thread for these conditions is inflammation of the brain and spinal cord.  My lab has recently identified an novel factor that plays a role in regulating inflammatory activity and may provide a target for clinical intervention. In addition, my lab is also analyzing the beneficial effects of 2 novel drugs that dampen inflammatory activity. In preclinical models these drugs improve motor and cognitive outcomes. We are continuing this line of work to develop these drugs for clinical trials. Our long-term goals are to ameliorate the degenerative effects of inflammation resulting in an improved quality of life for our veterans.
