These studies range from quality improvement projects all the way to multi-center, double-blinded, randomized controlled trials. The role of gut microbiome in the pathogenesis, modulation, and as a target for chronic liver disease is a major focus of my research team. I lead and participate in consortia with members that study the outcomes in chronic liver disease across North America and worldwide. My research is funded through the Veterans affairs, National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, American College of Gastroenterology and other national and international societies. I am currently the co-editor in chief of the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
